Hands up who wants to chat about what’s going on down there! No one right. But you could be sitting on (literally!) a pelvic organ prolapse (POP) without knowing it. Pelvic organ prolapses are really common! About 50% of women have one, but only 3% have symptoms. Unfortunately, when you have one it can progress to be symptomatic, so like everything it’s best to know as early as possible so you can get some help.
Pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain (PGP) is common, but that doesn’t mean it’s normal or to be expected! And the earlier it is recognised the better it can be managed. Previously called Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) it affects 1-in-5 pregnant women and is any pain in your pelvic area during pregnancy, often more common in subsequent pregnancies after your first.
Ever wondered why your nagging low back ache seems to linger despite your best efforts? It might just be a habit you’ve fallen into, those lifestyle choices that seems harmless but are sabotaging your spinal health, preventing you from getting better.
Anyone else a little stressed? The festive season has arrived and I’m just not ready! Expectations are high and stress levels are rising. Of course we all know we should try to destress but attempting to becomes even more stressful. Trying to fit in that hot lavender scented bath, meditating or going for a walk. Begs the question, what is the point of stress, and can this help us?
I love the pelvic floor, literally! It’s such a beautiful complex structure with incredible connections to so many other parts of our body. Its like that quiet reliable friend who never complains but is always there when you need them, except when suddenly they aren’t!
Quite honestly - not a lot! There are far more similarities than differences, all three aiming for the same outcome, hence the understandable confusion! All want to help people get better, help bodies work better, but they use slightly different techniques to get you there.
It might seem incredible, but more research is now showing how our gut ecosystem influences how our bodies work. This eclectic mix of bacteria, yeasts, fungi and other life-forms actually influence how we “feel” pain and could help you be free of pain!
Have you ever wondered what is happening when your joints click, crack or pop, either in normal everyday life or when they are specifically manipulated during treatment. Clicking joints can give us an immediate sense of relief and release, making us feel so much better, but what is actually happening in the joint when you click them and why does it feel so good? Is joint clicking safe and does it cause arthritis?
INFLAMMATION is like the emergency services of the body. It goes to everything, a small cut, a broken bone, a bump on your head, to any injury or assault your body may have. So, it’s your ambulance crew and your fire crew and the police force all rolled into one. The problem is inflammation can start turning up where it is not wanted!
Probably THE most common question people ask me is “Why does it hurt?”. Although incredibly hard to answer without examining you, I will try my best to talk you through the clues I look for and what they mean. This article will walk you through the questions I usually ask people and what that tells me about what’s causing their pain.
After a series of lockdowns and the restrictions of social distancing, I am looking forward to getting back to preparing from some races. I learned a lot from the build up to my last half marathon when my eldest son was almost one and I thought I would share some of my preparations as I intend to replicate these again soon.
I fell in love with cycling when I bought my first road bike back in 2012. As a runner, it gave me the freedom to go further and faster enabling me to explore more of the countryside and see places I never knew existed. But it wasn’t until I started working for a professional cycling team that I really started to adore the world of professional cycling
Days are getting longer, and garden daffodils are blooming. Whilst for many this is great news, there are some that dread this time of year, the advent of the allergy season.
Allergies are particularly debilitating in the spring, with many trying to avoid pollen and popping antihistamines, but this only gets you so far!
